He opened his school in 1971 in New York City's Chinatown. Quickly the school exploded to over two hundred students almost overnight. When Master Yeung Kai opened the school on 222 Centre Street many different schools in the metropolis came to wish Master Yeung Kai the best. Higly respected by many in the martial arts community, it was one of the largest martial arts schools in New York City. Due to the great reputation of Hung Fut Pai and Master Yeung Kai, many came to see what the school was all about. Many joined as students and like 洪錦培 Hung Gum Pui in Holland, he also faced many challenges from all of the different schools and independent experts wherein he earned all of their respect and became known as the "Young Master of Chinatown"師父仔. At his time in the 70’s it was a time of drugs and street violence on a unprecedented scale. Those who grew up in this enviorment knew the struggles of the street and Master Yeung Kai had some of his best students at the time, especially Sifu Jai. The Hung Fut School was one of the fiercest and revered top notch schools to have ever existed in New York’s Chinatown.

Master Yeung Kai was the “inside” student of Master Jung Geng Bo 鐘鏡波 (a.k.a. “Canon Ball Jung”), and was graduated with the blessings of both Master Zhong Geng Bo and Grandmaster Tom Sek 譚鍚師公. Tom Sek shook Yeung Kai’s hand and said: ”Graduating very good, very good.” Yeung Kai later said that Tom Sek’s hands felt like razor blades. Canon Ball taught Yeung Kai as though he was his own son. In the first ten years the of the schools existence, the only graduate student to go forth and open his own large school was Sifu Jai
